THE SHOW GOES ON - ONLINE: PRESENTING JAZZ AND IMPROVISATION DURING THE PANDEMIC

Livestream via the Jazz Institute of Chicago’s Facebook page

The need over the past 10 months to cancel almost all live, in-person gatherings made Chicago's independent music presenters quickly face unprecedented challenges. How could they continue to operate? What were their first reactions? What did it take to reassess and adapt programming? What is lost and what gained by going online? What are the financial considerations? What have they learned? Have their organizations, collaborative musicians and their audiences endured? Have they reached new audiences, discovered online?

Grammy Award-winning vocalist Kurt Elling, who's live-streamed from the Green Mill, his business partner Bryan Farina, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic founder and artistic director Orbert Davis, Fulton Street Collective curator Chris Anderson, HotHouse director Marguerite Horberg, Experimental Sound Studio's Olivia Junell and Studio 5 producer Steve Rashid tell tales ranging from a performer's perspective through travails of collaborating with partners in Cuba on an international web-fest.

Panel discussion moderated by Jazz Journalists Association President and JIC Board Member, Howard Mandel.
