Luiz Ewerling & AMADA

Luiz Ewerling is a Brazilian drummer and composer. He has been behind a drum kit since his sixth birthday and carried his Brazilian mastery of rhythm everywhere. Luiz has been part of acclaimed Chicago music projects like: Som Brazil, Sugar Blue, the Howard Levy 4, the Million Brazilian Project, Luciano Antonio Quintet. Luiz released his debut album "Our Earth" in 2002, with his band A cor do Brasil, showcasing an original music that is rhythmically and harmonically complex, while being melodic. His recent project - Amada, translated as "beloved”, is a band that shows Ewerling's influences of Brazilian and American musical styles, ranging from Pop to Rock, from Samba to Swing, from the free flowing pulse of the Partido Alto to contemporary jazz. The members of Amada are: Luiz Ewerling - drums, percussion, Ana Everling - voice, Luciano Antonio - guitar, Eric Woody - keyboards, Geoffrey Lowe - bass.

James Sanders' Conjunto presents "Evidencia: New Music for Violin & Afro Latin Ensemble"

The musicians involved with this project are Jose Rendon (conga), Luis Rosario (bongos), Steve Eisen (sax & flute), Jean-Christophe Leroy (drums), Jose Porcayo (bass), and Leandro López-Várady (arranger & pianist). James Sanders (leader/violin & composer)

In the coming months James plans to get the ensemble in the studio to document the original new music written during the lockdown. The recording that the ensemble will produce will be the evidence, or evidencia, of their persistence. Their hope is that they will emerge from this difficult time with something tangible and meaningful to our musical community: the continuing evolution of Latin jazz and James’ voice as a composer.
