About The JazzLinks Education Program

Jazz Links Jam Session

The Jazz Links program began in 2002 when the Jazz Institute invited a dedicated group of Chicago Public School band directors to form the Jazz Links Teachers Advisory Board to help us determine the best ways to increase opportunities for young people to access the great jazz legacy of Chicago. The resulting partnership has led to programs that include an Artist Residency program in several high schools and four elementary schools, and a partnership with the Chicago Public Schools’ Bureau of Arts and Culture to produce the All-City Jazz Band Competition. A new partnership with Columbia College Chicago offers opportunities to build mentorship relationships with members of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble including its Artistic Director Jon Faddis.

A Conversation with Chicago's own Bob Centano and Bob Ojeda

A conversation with Chicago's own
Bob Centano and Bob Ojeda
by Charles Walton

I was recently invited to a card game where I was surprised to meet the legendary bandleader and saxophonist Bob Centano. After a couple of conversations with Bob and after hearing his band, I thought others might be delighted to learn about him, too. On the day of scheduled interview, he called to say that Bob Ojeda, composer/arranger/trumpet player with the Count Basie band, was in town and suggested that I might also be interested in what he had to say. Thus, here is a conversation with the two Bobs.
