Jazz Institute of Chicago

A Feel Good Message for the New Year

The Jazz Institute is glad to have played a role in facilitating Dee’s dream year. We think the world should know about her talent, as well as those of all of our city’s wealth of musicians. Making a year-end donation with the Blue Donation box on the righthand side of your screen to the Jazz Institute (its tax deductible!) is a great way to contribute to the extraordinary richness of Chicago’s jazz legacy.

The video you are watching was recorded at the end of November in Poznan, Poland; part of the Jazz Institute’s partnership with Estrada Poznanksa, a non profit cultural arts agency in that town. It was the second annual Made in Chicago in Poland festival where fourteen musicians from Chicago represented our diverse jazz community and the music they create.

Dee Alexander had a heck of a year—with two major projects commissioned by the Jazz Institute of Chicago and dozens of appearances all over Chicago. From the Hyde Park Jazz Festival to Made in Chicago in Millennium Park (Sirens of Song: A Tribute to Nina Simone and Dinah Washington) to Columbus Park (A Gift of Light and Love: Tribute to Light Henry Huff) on the city’s west side and all the way to Poznan, Poland, where this recording of Nina Simone's Feeling Good was recorded, with stops at the Velvet Lounge, Green Mill and other jazz venues in and around town.
