On September 2, 2015 between 6 p.m. and midnight, jazz lovers hop on the Jazz Institute of Chicago’s Annual Jazz Club Tour to get a taste of Chicago’s thriving jazz scene by visiting clubs all over the city for one low price.
A collectible button featuring Billy Strayhorn, in honor of his centennial celebration, identifies Jazz Club Tour patrons who can start the tour at any of ten participating clubs. Trolleys circulate all night long, so patrons can hop on and off whenever they wish and enjoy the music at each club for as long as they want. Participating clubs include Norman’s Bistro in Hyde Park, The Drake Hotel’s Palm Court and Coq D’Or in the North Loop; South Loop treasure The Jazz Showcase; the historic Green Mill on the north side, newcomer The Promontory and others.
“Its a great way to explore Chicago’s jazz scene and connect with like minded music lovers,” says Jazz Institute of Chicago Executive Director Lauren Deutsch. “It will also whet your appetite for the 37th Chicago Jazz Festival; four days of music in Millennium Park.”
“It’s like an early Christmas to me, to get to spend time with my friends and listening to so much great music,” one Jazz Club Tour patron said last year.
Advance buttons are $35 and can be purchased for $40 on the day of the tour, with special discounts for card carrying members of the Jazz Institute of Chicago. The event sells out fast, so get your button early and save $5!
