Jazz In Chicago: The Chicago Jazz Festival – A Retrospective

It’s gratifying to look at the evolution of jazz over the three decades of the Chicago Jazz Festival.  We were lucky to have presented Miles Davis, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Sarah Vaughan, Horace Silver, Jackie MacLean, Joe Henderson, Von Freeman and Fred Anderson to name a few who have permanently altered the landscape of jazz   But we’ve been equally lucky to have introduced a 21 year-old Wynton Marsalis, an early outing for Jason Moran, and plenty of the younger stars shimmering in the skies of today: Gregory Porter, Dee Alexander, Ken Vandermark, Miguel Zenon, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Nicole Mitchell and so many more who have opened our ears to new sounds.
