I am new to the city. I would like recommendations of musicians to see. Who is new, up and coming? What are the good Jam Sessions in town. Where can I see lectures about jazz and get together with fellow jazz lovers. I am 26 and love the music, I want to know all about jazz in the city of Louis Armstrong (I know he was born in Nawlins).
Give me all the info, please.

My take on it....
Disclaimer: this is one man's opinion on the local scene.
For jam sessions, Tuesday nights at the New Apartment Lounge with Von Freeman can't be beat. A set by a living legend and then great local talent. Sundays at the Velvet Lounge are great too, more on the avant side.
For shows around town, my favorite venues are the Velvet Lounge on the south side and the Green Mill on the northside. When the Jazz Showcase re opens it will be a hot spot once again.
For younger up and coming guys, Corey Wilkes and a lot of the Velvet Lounge oriented guys like Junius Paul and Isaiah Spencer are great.
There's tons of jazz to see in the city...my reccomendation is to go out and see some shows, see what you like, and then follow the trail to other great shows in the same venues or with similar musicians.
So did you go check anything
