ABOUT PETE BENSON

Pete Benson is one of Chicago’s most in-demand pianists and Hammond B3 organists, playing regularly at Chicago’s most popular jazz venues for the past 25 years. The Pete Benson Organ Trio performs a varied repertoire inspired by organ greats such as Shirley Scott, Larry Young, and Melvin Rhyne, playing recognizable standards in addition to deeper cuts that feature the unique sound of the B3 organ. Notable recordings include: "Five Down Blues,” The Kyle Asche organ trio, “Live at The Green Mill,” the George Freeman & Mike Allemana Organ Quartet with Special Guest Bernard Purdie, “Sabertooth Live at the Green Mill” and “Sabertooth Plays Dead.”

ABOUT WILLYE WHITE PARK!

Just after World War II, the Rogers Park Kiwanis Club urged the City of Chicago to establish a playground in their neighborhood.  In 1949, the City used Playground Bond funds to purchase land along Ashland Avenue for park development.  Initially known as Ashland Playground, the site soon had playground equipment, a sand box, and a brick shelter house.  In winter, park patrons could ice skate on the flooded lawn.  In 1951, the City Council officially named the site Kiwanis Park, in recognition of the service club’s efforts.  In 1957, the City of Chicago transferred the park to the Chicago Park District pursuant to the Chicago Park and City Exchange of Functions Act. LEARN MORE…
